Melissa Oak

About Melissa

Melissa Oak has held several positions in education spanning preschool, elementary and middle school education. After receiving a Bachelors degree from UMBC in Psychology and a teaching certification, she taught second and fifth grade in the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) including serving as a Fifth Grade Team Leader.  While teaching elementary school, she attained her Masters Degree in School Counseling from The Johns Hopkins University.  She then assumed a role as a middle school counselor for HCPSS, and also completed certification in Administration and Supervision from Loyola University.

After the birth of her second child, Melissa took a leave of absence from HCPSS. During this time, she taught at Mt. Hebron Nursery School. She returned to HCPSS in 2019, where she continues to work as a middle school counselor and was nominated as Counselor of the Year in 2023-24.

​

​Melissa and her husband Andy live in Ellicott City and have four children. They enjoy attending their children’s multiple activities including chorus and band performances, dance recitals and many basketball and lacrosse games/tournaments. In her free time, Melissa loves spending time with family and friends, reading and going to the beach!
