Overview

Little Oak Nursery School values each child as a unique individual with their own strengths, interests, and needs. Our goal is to support their growth by providing a safe and nurturing environment where they can explore, problem-solve, communicate, and develop independence. We recognize that children learn in diverse ways and strive to foster their full potential.
Our school year runs from September through late May, closely following the Howard County Public School System’s calendar for holidays, closings, and inclement weather. Every classroom is led by a credentialed and degreed Lead Teacher, supported by an Assistant Teacher.

Our school is a private, non-sectarian, non-profit school offering programs for two, three, four and five year old children. We offer a variety of classes based on your child's age. Classes are from 9:00am-11:30am for two year olds, and 9:00am-1:00pm for transitional twos/threes, three and four year olds, with the option to add our Enrichment Program to some class offerings.

Classes are designed with engaging themes that are developmentally appropriate, fostering growth and learning across all areas of a child's development.

Social & Emotional Development

Growth

Enrichment
The Little Oak Nursery School Enrichment program is a themed-based experience designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning in young children! Each session centers around an engaging theme that connects to classroom learning across multiple domains. Children build on their early literacy skills through playful activities that support phonemic awareness, phonics, storytelling, and language development.
Foundational math concepts such as counting, number recognition, patterns, and simple problem-solving are introduced through hands-on games and manipulatives.
Science exploration encourages children to ask questions, make observations, and experiment with the world around them.
Creative expression is fostered through arts and crafts that support fine motor development and imagination.
Daily outdoor play and movement activities promote physical development, coordination, and social skills. The program provides a balanced, nurturing environment where learning feels fun, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate.
This program is designed for our three and four year old students and is available daily from 1:00pm-3:00pm for enrolled LONS students.

Transitional Kindergarten
(4-5 Year Olds)
Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 3:00pm

The LONS Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program is designed for children who would benefit from an additional year of early childhood instruction before entering Kindergarten. This valuable gift of time allows children to grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
By introducing students to the structure and expectations of kindergarten, our unique program prepares children for a smooth transition into formal Kindergarten. Our goal is for each student to reach a mastery level of preschool standards, and embark on foundational kindergarten standards through age-
appropriate direct instruction and play-based creative learning experiences.

Instruction will align with the Maryland Early Learning Standards, addressing the seven domains of development and learning - language and literacy, math, science, social studies, music and art, social foundations, and motor development.

To effectively meet each student's particular requirements, the LONS Transitional Kindergarten program prioritizes small student-teacher ratios and individualized instruction from highly qualified teachers.
